CD DVD
Tower
A CD DVD
tower is a computer hardware that can hold multiple CD or DVD
drives. There are two main reasons why you would want to have
such a configuration, and both of them involves connecting this
piece of hardware on a network. One reason is because you would
like workstations to gain simultaneous access to data or
programs found on separate CD’s or DVD’s. The other is because
you would want to simultaneously burn data on separate CD’s or
DVD’s
In other
words, such a unit functions as a server. Hence, a CD DVD Tower
is frequently called a CD DVD Server.
Having a
CD DVD Tower on a local area network is useful if the
workstations in your network are not equipped with CD or DVD
drives. This is usually done to prevent unauthorized
installations on these computers.
If a
system administrator wants to install new software applications
on these workstations, he simply inserts the necessary
installation optical disks into the drives on the tower and
accesses them from each workstation.
Ditto on
it functioning as a server for burning blank CD’s or DVD’s.
Some of these drives have burning capabilities and you can burn
data from your workstations to CD’s and DVD’s mounted on the CD
DVD Tower.
